VDV DRILLING: contractor check

Check a contractor before you sign a quote or pay a deposit. You see what the official registers record about them, what they do not record, and what to ask them yourself.

Checking a contractor, in five steps

  1. The enterprise number The number belongs on the quote, with the contractor's name and address. Look it up. The check shows whether the company is active, since when, and which activities it registered.
  2. Bankruptcies and financial position An open bankruptcy or a judicial reorganisation is a reason not to sign. The annual accounts show whether the company can carry its debts. A sole trader files no annual accounts.
  3. Recognition and class A recognition is not required for private work. It does show that the administration checked the contractor's technical and financial capacity. The class sets the highest amount per contract.
  4. Debts and insurance Social and tax debts show in Check inhoudingsplicht. The insurance shows on the certificate the contractor gives you. The check tells you where and how to verify it.
  5. A written quote and a small deposit Put the price, the completion time and the payment schedule on paper. Pay in instalments by transfer, never in cash for 3,000 euros or more.

For a business that buys, the Supplier due diligence also shows the owners, the sanctions lists and the public contracts.
