Method and sources
- Every night the active companies, the new companies, the bankruptcies and the bankruptcy probability are counted per municipality. The map goes no finer than the municipality. A postcode or street opens its municipality, and the page says so. The filed balance sheets per postcode, street and address are in Company wealth map.
- The companies come from the KBO every night. A company or association sits at its registered office, a sole trader at its establishment. The sector is the main activity in NACE 2025. The size is the average staff (FTE) in the latest filed annual accounts.
- New companies and bankruptcies cover the same twelve months as on every market page. The part the map can place is under How we count. A ratio appears only from 20 (new) or 50 (bankruptcies) active companies. The median bankruptcy probability appears only from 30 companies with a score.
- A sole trader appears among the recent incorporations and bankruptcies under its register name, never with a home address.
- The colours are quantiles. Each shade covers roughly the same number of municipalities. Municipalities follow the 2025 division. Boundaries and population (1 January 2024) come from Statbel, as open data.
- 141,436 active companies are not on the map, for want of a Belgian address that can be placed.

All figures cover the same twelve months, November 2025 to October 2026, and were counted on 1 November 2026. The same definitions apply on every Checked market page.
